What do you do when rap royalty calls? Well you answer of course! Unfortunately, it was a message that I’d missed. Cheryl was calling because she was hesitant about ordering her wedding invitation online. She wanted to do a consult in order to touch and feel the stocks. Very simply, she wanted to experience personal side of choosing her most important invitation.
During our call, she had some very definite ideas but she was also open to others. Creating an invitation, in my opinion, must take both the bride and groom into consideration. While we joke and say it’s our day, it really is an expression of the couple together. So when asking questions about the couple, Cheryl quietly sprang on me that her fiance was a member of the rap group Whodini. No pressure right. They are just VH1’s Hip Hop Honors recipients, considered pioneers of rap, and the group of one of my favorite songs “Five Minutes of Funk.” This was a big one!
We sat down and came up with something vintage with a modern romantic appeal. There were quite a few additional items as Cheryl and Drew needed to get information out to various people in an efficient and timely manner. So, I created a pocket “thank you” that looked like a copy of the main invitation for the bridal party. She wanted to thank them for attending her and Drew’s big day in a special way. The inserts included itinerary information for fittings, dinners, etc. We rounded out the theme with programs along with reception items which included menu cards, table numbers, and a gobo from the design for the pocket seal.
It was a wonderful evening and one wedding that I will never forget! Wholesome fun, great people, just a true family affair if ever there was one. Everyone left late that night thinking the same thing…”That was just like Cheryl and Drew!”
